Original: Ales Bialiatski creates a foundation to fight the global human rights crisis
Ales Bialiatski, the Belarusian democracy activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has created a foundation aimed at confronting what he describes as a global human rights crisis. The initiative, announced by the Belarusian opposition-aligned outlet Spring96, is intended to support rights defenders and victims of repression worldwide, drawing attention to the situation in Belarus.
Why now: Bialiatski is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who has been imprisoned in Belarus, so any new initiative bearing his name draws wide attention.
