Britain is preparing a final diplomatic push to stop Israel from closing the UK consulate in East Jerusalem, according to BBC News. The consulate has long served as Britain's diplomatic mission to the Palestinians, and its closure would mark a significant shift in the UK's diplomatic presence in the contested city. The move has drawn attention amid already heightened tensions over Israel's policies in Jerusalem and the occupied territories.
Why now: A rare diplomatic clash between the UK and Israel over a consulate closure is drawing international attention.
