Lee Krasner Gets Her Own Spotlight at the Met
Original: Lee Krasner Finally Steps Out of Jackson Pollock’s Shadow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is being credited with giving painter Lee Krasner a recognition long overdue, independent of her famous husband Jackson Pollock. Art-world commentary frames it as a corrective to decades in which Krasner's own abstract work was overshadowed by Pollock's legacy, and a sign of museums reassessing women artists of the New York School.
Why now: A major institution is recentering a historically overlooked woman artist, feeding ongoing debate about women's recognition in art history.
