Wildlife rabies vaccine drop to begin Wednesday in the Tri-Cities
Aerial and hand distribution of oral rabies vaccine baits for wildlife is set to begin Wednesday across the Tri-Cities area of northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. Health and wildlife officials run the annual drop to immunize raccoons and other animals and stop the spread of rabies toward populated areas. Residents are advised to leave the baits alone and keep pets away from them.
Why now: The vaccine drop is starting this week, prompting local interest and questions about safety and where the baits will land.
