ChatGPT answers calls on a normal SIM using a $6 ESP32
Original: Show HN: ChatGPT answers calls on a normal SIM. No Twilio, just a $6 ESP32
A developer has shown a setup where ChatGPT answers phone calls on a regular SIM card, with no Twilio or telephony service involved, using only an ESP32 microcontroller costing around $6. The project was shared on Hacker News, drawing interest for how cheaply it connects AI voice assistants to ordinary phone numbers.
Why now: Makers and developers are excited by a low-cost, service-free way to route real phone calls to an AI assistant.
