Top UN food agency official reportedly fired over Gaza hunger warnings
Original: Top UN food agency official ‘fired over Gaza hunger warnings’
A senior official at a UN food agency has reportedly been dismissed after raising warnings about hunger in Gaza, according to Arab News. The claim has drawn attention to tensions between UN agencies and political actors over how the food crisis in the territory is being described and handled. Details about the official's identity and the circumstances of the dismissal remain limited.
Why now: Ongoing global concern over famine conditions in Gaza makes allegations that a UN official was punished for sounding the alarm highly contentious.
