EU agrees mutual defense pact for space security
Original: EU deepens collective space security with mutual defense pact
The European Union has moved to deepen collective space security through a mutual defense pact, extending the principle of collective defense to assets and interests in orbit. The agreement signals that an attack on member states' space infrastructure could be treated as an attack on all, reflecting growing concern over satellite vulnerability and strategic competition in space.
Why now: Rising geopolitical tensions and concerns over satellite and space infrastructure security have pushed EU space defense cooperation into the spotlight.
