Hundreds of Groups Oppose Endangered Species Attacks in Permitting Bill
Original: Hundreds of Organizations Oppose Endangered Species Attacks in Permitting Legislation
Hundreds of conservation and environmental organizations have signed on to oppose legislation they say includes attacks on the Endangered Species Act through permitting reforms. The opposition campaign, organized around the Center for Biological Diversity, argues the bill would weaken protections for imperiled wildlife under the guise of speeding infrastructure approvals. Critics are urging lawmakers to strip the endangered species provisions from the permitting legislation.
Why now: Permitting legislation currently moving through Congress contains provisions that conservation groups say would gut Endangered Species Act protections.
