Kansas agriculture depends on immigrants failed by broken system
Original: Kansas agriculture and rural communities need immigrants, but system has failed them
Kansas Reflector reports that Kansas agriculture and rural communities rely heavily on immigrant labor, yet the US immigration system has failed to provide them with a workable legal pathway. Farm groups and rural leaders argue that labor shortages threaten harvests and the viability of small towns, and they are calling for federal reform to match workers with the state's agricultural needs.
Why now: Immigration policy and farm labor shortages remain a live political debate affecting rural economies.
