Chiharu Shiota's Thread Installations Hold a Lifetime of Memories
Original: Chiharu Shiota’s Monumental Thread Installations Hold a Lifetime of Memories
Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota is drawing attention for her monumental installations built from vast webs of thread, which she describes as carrying memories and personal history. The work revisits themes central to her career: absence, loss and the traces people leave behind. Artsy has published a feature examining how the dense red and black labyrinths transform everyday objects into meditations on memory.
Why now: A new feature on her immersive thread installations has renewed interest in her memory-themed work.
