Original: Nobel prize in physics goes to Francis Halzen for south pole work on neutrinos https:// lemmy.zip/post/72750763
Posts are claiming that the Nobel Prize in Physics has gone to Francis Halzen for his work on neutrinos at the South Pole, referring to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory he leads. Halzen is known for building the detector buried deep in Antarctic ice to study high-energy neutrinos from space. The report is circulating with limited detail, and no independent confirmation of the award is included.
Why now: A Nobel Prize announcement would naturally draw wide attention from science followers.
