Explosions dominate headlines on both sides of the Atlantic

Original: explosion

A fire and explosion tore through the Quaker Oats factory in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, while in France an explosion of a police grenade during a school blockade in Lens tore off a teenager's hand, drawing nationwide outrage and over 5,000 arrests in related protests. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez called the Lens incident a tragedy as questions grow over police use of force against lycéens.

Why now: Two serious explosion-related incidents, one in the US and one in France, broke within the same news cycle.
