The United Kingdom has warned Israel it will expel 27 Israeli diplomats from the embassy in London unless Tel Aviv reverses its decision to close the British Consulate General in East Jerusalem, according to a report by Israeli outlet Ynet. The consulate serves as the British diplomatic channel to the Palestinians, making its closure a serious point of friction between the two governments.
Why now: An unprecedented diplomatic threat between close allies over East Jerusalem raises the stakes in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
