Israel's ambassador to Australia says he hopes relations between the two countries can return to their 'traditional friendship', speaking on the eve of the October 7 anniversary. The remarks come as ties have been strained, with Australia having moved to recognise Palestinian statehood amid the Gaza conflict. The comments frame the anniversary as a possible moment for repairing diplomatic relations.
Why now: The October 7 anniversary is prompting reflection on strained Israel-Australia relations, making the ambassador's call for reconciliation timely and newsworthy.
