Sri Lankan Buddhist leaders urge president to act in Anojan case

Original: anojan sivarasa

Sri Lanka's Mahanayaka Theros, the most senior Buddhist monks, have submitted a memorandum to the President calling for state intervention in the case of Sivarasa Anojan. The appeal places the matter before the country's top political office, and searches for Anojan's name have surged in the United States as attention grows around the case and the monks' unusual direct appeal.

Why now: The involvement of Sri Lanka's most senior Buddhist clergy petitioning the President directly has drawn fresh public attention to Anojan's case.
