Trump renews pledge of $5,000 checks to Americans
Original: Trump renews $5,000 check pledge
Donald Trump has repeated his proposal to send $5,000 payments to American taxpayers, reviving a pledge he has floated at previous campaign events and in office. Supporters have welcomed the idea as direct relief for households, while critics question how it would be funded and whether it would ever materialise. The renewed promise is drawing debate over fiscal cost, inflation risks and whether the payments are politically realistic.
Why now: Renewing a headline-grabbing cash payment pledge immediately sparks debate over its cost and credibility.
