New York declares US's first measles disaster emergency
Original: New York declares first US measles disaster emergency since 2025 surge https:// reut.rs/4rPJAM3
New York has declared a disaster emergency over measles, the first such move in the United States since the 2025 outbreak surge. The declaration gives state officials expanded powers to respond to the spread of the highly contagious virus. Health authorities are urging vaccination as cases prompt renewed concern about falling immunisation rates.
Why now: Measles is resurging in the US, and an emergency declaration in a major state signals officials see the outbreak as serious enough for extraordinary measures.
