Rep. Jeff Hurd defends 'independent' record in reelection fight
Original: Jeff Hurd is defending his ‘independent’ record as he runs for reelection to Congress. His Democratic challenger disagrees.
Colorado Congressman Jeff Hurd is campaigning for reelection on a record he calls independent, pointing to his willingness to break with his party. His Democratic challenger disputes that characterization, arguing his voting record does not back the claim. The exchange is shaping up as a central argument in the race for the swing district seat.
Why now: The contest is competitive and Hurd's cross-party appeal is a key point of dispute between the campaigns.
