Record heat and dry conditions hit central Montana

Red Lodge reached 28C and Billings 31C, setting new daily record highs across central Montana. Relative humidity has dropped to 8-14% due to strong upper ridging, leaving vegetation drying out quickly. Observers note that while conditions are unusually warm for the season, the fire risk remains limited mainly by the absence of wind, which would otherwise allow any ignition to spread rapidly through the canyons.

Why now: Unseasonably hot, dry weather and elevated wildfire concerns are drawing attention in Montana.
