San Diego churches swelter as heat wave exposes lack of air conditioning
Original: Our Lady of Angels Church is among many without A/C during San Diego’s heat wave
Our Lady of Angels Church in San Diego is operating without air conditioning as the city endures a severe heat wave, and it is far from alone — many local churches and older buildings lack cooling systems. Congregants and staff are coping with dangerous indoor temperatures, raising questions about how faith communities and other institutions will manage as extreme heat becomes more frequent.
Why now: An intense heat wave is straining buildings across San Diego that were never equipped with air conditioning, making the discomfort and health risks widely relatable right now.
