DEDA Toolkit Exposes Hidden Printer Tracking Dots

Original: DEDA – Tracking Dots Extraction, Decoding and Anonymisation Toolkit

A new open-source toolkit called DEDA (Tracking Dots Extraction, Decoding and Anonymisation Toolkit) has been released by researchers at TU Dresden. It extracts, decodes and removes the yellow tracking dots that many colour laser printers secretly print on documents, which can identify the printer's serial number and print date. The release renews debate about printer privacy and document anonymisation.

Why now: People are discussing it because it exposes how printers covertly track documents and offers a practical anonymisation tool.
