Original: Wildlife Services to distribute oral rabies vaccines for raccoons in western NC
Wildlife Services plans to distribute oral rabies vaccines for raccoons across western North Carolina, part of ongoing efforts to control rabies in wild animal populations. The program typically involves bait packets scattered in rural and wooded areas for raccoons to eat, immunizing them against the virus and reducing transmission risk to pets and people.
Why now: Residents in the affected region are being alerted to a public health and wildlife management action taking place locally.
