Original: UK threatens to expel Israeli diplomats after closing of East Jerusalem consulate https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026

The British government has threatened to expel Israeli diplomats in response to Israel's closure of the British consulate in East Jerusalem. The move escalates a diplomatic dispute between the two countries over Britain's diplomatic presence in the contested city, where the consulate has historically served as the UK's representation to Palestinian authorities. The threat raises questions about the future of UK-Israel relations amid already heightened tensions in the region.

Why now: An escalating diplomatic standoff between the UK and Israel over Jerusalem is drawing international attention.
