French news roundup: storms, school blockades, carrier fire

Original: rmc direct

France is following several developing stories: Corsica has been placed on red alert as an intense storm system hits the south-east. In Ile-de-France, Valérie Pécresse has responded to high school students behind widespread school blockades, which Jean-Luc Mélenchon is calling on the left to support. In Lens, attention is focused on a young man whose hand was torn off by a grenade during a blockade. Separately, a fire broke out aboard the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle at the Toulon naval base.

Why now: A combination of breaking stories — the Corsica red alert, nationwide school blockades and the Charles de Gaulle fire — is dominating French news discussion.
