Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard has suggested that an official announcement about a Grand Prix in Africa is imminent, sparking speculation about the sport's return to the continent. No African race has featured on the F1 calendar since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami, and recent years have seen growing pushes, notably from Rwanda and South Africa, to host a race.

Why now: Formula 1 has been expanding to new markets and fans are eager for the sport's return to Africa, so any hint of an official announcement generates strong interest.
