Dengue emerges as local threat in Lombardy

Original: dengue

Health authorities in Lombardy are warning that dengue is no longer just an imported tropical disease but is now being transmitted locally, calling it a new threat to public health. Experts link the change to rising temperatures making the region more hospitable to tiger mosquitoes, which can carry the virus, and urge stronger mosquito control measures.

Why now: Locally transmitted dengue cases in northern Italy are raising alarm that a once-exotic disease is becoming endemic.
