PEN America Prepares 2026 Banned Books List
Original: Banned Books List 2026
PEN America is preparing its Banned Books List for 2026, the organisation's annual documentation of books removed or restricted in schools and libraries. The lists have become closely watched indicators of censorship efforts in the United States, often prompting public debate among educators, parents, authors and free-speech advocates when new editions are released.
Why now: Debates over book bans in schools and libraries remain a prominent cultural and political issue, drawing attention to each new accounting of banned titles.
