On July 19, 2013, NASA's Cassini probe slipped into Saturn's shadow and photographed the entire Saturnian system, capturing the rings backlit by the Sun along with seven moons. In the lower right of the image sits a tiny pale blue dot: Earth, some 1.4 billion kilometres away. The image, known as 'The Day the Earth Smiled', is being shared again as a reminder that everyone alive at the time was in the frame.

Why now: People are once again moved by the iconic image showing all of humanity as a single pale blue dot.
