Asian hornet attacks injure runners and kill worker
Original: frelon asiatique
A series of Asian hornet attacks is making headlines in France and Spain. In the Loire, around twenty runners were stung during a trail race in Saint-Maurice-en-Gourgois, leaving eleven injured, one seriously, with a participant airlifted to hospital. In Spain, a forest worker was killed after being attacked by a swarm. The incidents are renewing concern over the spread of the invasive species.
Why now: Two serious Asian hornet attacks in quick succession, including a death in Spain, have raised alarm about the invasive insect.
