Anti-war post calls dying for your country a fairytale
Original: Dying for your country is a fairytale, in reality you will bleed out in the mud like a dog for absolutely nothing - Erne
A blunt anti-war message is circulating, arguing that the idea of dying for your country is a fairytale and that soldiers instead bleed out in the mud for nothing. The line is attributed to Ernest Hemingway, though the post carries an AI label and its true origin is uncertain. It reflects a wider mood of cynicism about patriotic war rhetoric as conflicts continue to claim lives.
Why now: Ongoing wars keep anti-war sentiments and skepticism about patriotic sacrifice prominent in public discussion.
