US bombers leave UK base amid Iran terror plot claims
Original: US bombers leave UK base as Britain points to Iran in suspected terror plot
US bomber aircraft have departed a British air base while UK authorities have named Iran in connection with a suspected terror plot. The concurrent movements and accusation have drawn attention to the state of UK-Iran relations and the American military posture in Britain. Details of the alleged plot and the reasons for the bombers' departure remain limited, with officials offering little public explanation so far.
Why now: The simultaneous US military withdrawal from a UK base and a British accusation against Iran over a suspected plot is an unusual, potentially linked development.
