Trump has gutted US diplomacy, and Australia should take note
Commentators argue that the Trump administration has hollowed out US diplomacy, sharply cutting the State Department's capacity and sidelining career diplomats, and that Australia should draw lessons from this retreat. The argument is that Washington's reduced diplomatic presence leaves allies like Australia more exposed in the Indo-Pacific and needing to invest more in their own diplomatic and security capabilities.
Why now: Concerns over the Trump administration's cuts to the State Department and what they mean for US allies like Australia.
