US defence experts are set to work inside Taiwan's military headquarters under a newly reported cooperation arrangement, according to the South China Morning Post. The reported pact would place American personnel in a more direct advisory role within Taiwan's defence establishment, deepening military coordination at a time of heightened tensions with China, which claims the island as its territory.
Why now: It signals a deepening of US-Taiwan military cooperation likely to provoke a strong reaction from Beijing.
