GeoAI Maps Invasive Albizia Tree Threat in Hawaii
Original: GeoAI For Infrastructure Resilience - Mapping Exposure To Invasive Albizia Trees In Hawai’i -- https:// doi.org/10.3390/
Researchers have published a study using GeoAI methods to map where invasive albizia trees threaten infrastructure across Hawaii. The fast-growing trees are notorious for dropping large branches onto roads and power lines, and the Hawaii Invasive Species Council maintains profiles on the species. The work aims to help prioritize removal and protect vulnerable communities.
Why now: New research combining AI mapping with a well-known invasive species problem in Hawaii is drawing attention from environmental and infrastructure communities.
