Nearly 1,500 migrants arrive in Myanmar despite UN warnings
Original: Nearly 1,500 migrants arrive in Myanmar from Malaysia despite UN warnings
Nearly 1,500 migrants have arrived in Myanmar from Malaysia, according to Al Jazeera, despite warnings from the United Nations against such returns. The UN has cautioned that conditions in Myanmar are not safe for returns. The arrival has drawn attention to the pressure on Malaysia regarding migration and to ongoing concerns about the situation inside Myanmar.
Why now: The UN publicly warned against returns to Myanmar, so a large-scale arrival raises safety and legal concerns.
