Intentional walk to load bases against Acuna pays off

Original: Not often you intentionally walk someone to load the bases to face Ronald Acuna Jr. — and probably even less often that

During an NLDS game against the Dodgers, a team chose to issue an intentional walk that loaded the bases, setting up a high-stakes at-bat against Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. The gambit worked, which is rare given the risk of facing one of baseball's best hitters with nowhere to put him. Baseball fans are discussing the bold call and how seldom that strategy backfires or succeeds.

Why now: A risky intentional walk to face Ronald Acuna Jr. in the playoffs actually worked, which is a rare and surprising managerial decision.
