US pulls B-52 bombers from RAF Fairford base
Original: US removes bombers from RAF Fairford
The United States has removed its bomber aircraft, including B-52s, from RAF Fairford, the American forward-operating base in Gloucestershire, England. The withdrawal ends a long-standing rotational bomber presence at the site, which has hosted US strategic aircraft for training and NATO deterrence missions. The move is drawing attention given heightened European security concerns and ongoing support for Ukraine.
Why now: Any reduction of US military assets in Europe is being closely watched amid the war in Ukraine and questions about American commitment to NATO.
