An anonymous buyer attended an auction in August, noticed a folder of CD-ROMs and other discs tied to Tippett Studios, the pioneering visual effects house founded by Phil Tippett, and purchased it for an undisclosed sum. The buyer has since uploaded the entire collection to the Internet Archive, making rare animation and effects material freely available to the public.
Why now: People are excited that previously inaccessible material from a legendary effects studio has been preserved and released online for free.
