US seeks sovereignty over Greenland
Original: JUST NOW: The United States wants sovereignty over Greenland.
The United States is reportedly seeking sovereignty over Greenland, according to a claim circulating online. The announcement, if confirmed, would escalate long-standing American interest in the Danish autonomous territory, which Trump has repeatedly pushed to acquire for its strategic Arctic location and mineral resources. Denmark has previously rejected any sale, and Greenland's government has said the island is not for sale.
Why now: Fresh claim of US interest in acquiring Greenland renews debate over Arctic strategy and Trump's earlier statements
