Trump names Jay Clayton as new White House AI czar

Original: Trump names national intelligence chief Jay Clayton as new AI czar

President Trump has named Jay Clayton, who serves as his national intelligence chief, as the government's new artificial intelligence czar, according to reports from NPR and Houston Public Media. The move puts Clayton in charge of coordinating federal AI policy while he continues in his intelligence oversight role, and the appointment is drawing attention to the White House's expanding focus on AI.

Why now: The dual appointment of a top intelligence official to lead AI policy raises questions about how the administration will balance national security and innovation.
