Trump gives spy chief new title: AI czar
Donald Trump has given the US director of national intelligence an additional role as the government's artificial intelligence czar, according to Politico. The move places the intelligence chief in charge of coordinating AI policy across the federal government, merging intelligence oversight with the administration's AI agenda. Details about the scope of the new role and how it will interact with other tech policy bodies have not yet been laid out.
Why now: Trump is reshaping the federal government's approach to AI policy, and the combination of intelligence and AI roles raises questions about oversight.
