OpenAI, Blackstone and SoftBank have formed the American Infrastructure Alliance, a lobbying group focused on US data centers. The alliance's first stated objective is to stop US states from passing laws that block or restrict the construction of AI data centers. The move signals that major AI and investment firms are organizing politically to secure the power, land and permits needed for large-scale computing infrastructure.
Why now: The coalition of major AI and investment firms pushing to override state-level resistance to data centers is newly announced and politically contentious.
