Space enthusiasts are marking World Space Week online, sharing the Star Trek-inspired motto 'Ad Astra per Aspera' — through hardship to the stars — alongside tributes to Sputnik, whose 1957 launch opened the space age. The observance runs annually from October 4 to 10, deliberately chosen to bracket the Sputnik anniversary, and this year's posts blend nostalgia for the first satellite with general celebration of space exploration.

Why now: World Space Week coincides with the anniversary of the Sputnik launch, prompting space fans to share tributes online.
