Aspen Snowmass trials snow farming to protect ski season
Original: Colorado's Aspen Snowmass experiments with snow farming technology
Colorado ski resort Aspen Snowmass is testing snow farming technology, a technique that stores snow over the summer to build up reserves for the following winter season. The method, used in parts of Europe, involves insulating stockpiled snow so it survives warm months. The resort is experimenting with it as climate pressures make early-season snow coverage less reliable in the Rocky Mountains.
Why now: Ski resorts are searching for practical ways to adapt to warming winters and unreliable natural snowfall.
