Spotlight Director Says Catholic Church Still Hasn't Done Enough to Protect Children
Original: ‘Spotlight’ Director Says The Catholic Church Hasn’t Done ‘Enough’ To Protect Children From Sexual Assault 10 Years After Film’s Best Picture Win: ‘Not Until Every Child Is Safe’
Tom McCarthy, director of the Oscar-winning film 'Spotlight', says the Catholic Church has still not done enough to protect children from sexual assault, ten years after the film won Best Picture. 'Not until every child is safe,' he said, arguing that institutional reform has fallen short of what the 2015 film's reporting on the Boston abuse scandal demanded.
Why now: The tenth anniversary of the film's Best Picture win has prompted its director to renew criticism of the Church's handling of abuse.
