Dozens detained at Moscow rally held by Communist Party
Original: Dozens detained at a rally in Moscow held by Kremlin-friendly Communist Party, party says
Dozens of people were detained at a rally in Moscow organised by the Communist Party, a party that is generally aligned with the Kremlin, according to statements from the party itself. The detentions suggest that even events staged by Kremlin-friendly political forces are being met with police action, and the incident is drawing attention to tightening controls on public gatherings in Russia.
Why now: Detentions at a rally held by a Kremlin-friendly party are unusual and point to broader crackdowns on public assembly in Russia.
