Thunderbird has released a native, open-source email app for iPhone and iPad, extending the Mozilla-founded mail client beyond desktop and Android. Commenters say the move strengthens independent alternatives to the major mobile email providers and ties into wider debates about digital sovereignty, including arguments in Italy about technological autonomy from big tech platforms.
Why now: The release of a long-awaited open-source email app for iOS gives people fresh grounds to discuss digital independence from dominant platforms.
