Original: News Alert! Bhadohi district renamed Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi: Yogi Adityanath.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Bhadohi district will be renamed Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi. The announcement, reported by news agency PTI, adds the name of the 14th-century saint and poet Sant Ravidas to the carpet-weaving district, which already carried that designation in earlier usage. Officials have not yet detailed the administrative steps required to implement the change.
Why now: The renaming of a district in India's most populous state is a politically significant decision drawing wide attention.
