Red snapper fishing season opens Friday, and anglers are being asked to donate fish carcasses to support scientific research, with prizes offered as an incentive. The donations give researchers data on the fish population while allowing fishermen to take part in conservation efforts during the short recreational season.

An artist shared a new illustration for the Spookytober drawing challenge, a wordplay titled 'Rotschnäppchen' or 'little red biting hood'. In the story accompanying the picture, an older Little Red Riding Hood buys her first pet, a small red snapper she got at a bargain price at the fish market. The pun-based Halloween artwork is drawing modest attention among art fans online.
