A new open-source software toolbox can predict the sloshing frequencies of fuel inside tanks of any shape, according to a report by Bioengineer.org. Sloshing analysis matters for aerospace and automotive engineers, since fuel movement can destabilise vehicles and is difficult to model in non-rectangular tanks. Making the tool open-source could allow researchers and engineers worldwide to verify and adapt the calculations for their own designs.
